Top quality wines from a mature vineyard in the heart of the English countryside
Bodenham English Wines, from historic Broadfield Court, are proudly produced by the James family and are acknowledged as some of the finest to be produced in the UK.
“I had a low opinion of English wines until I tasted those on offer at Broadfield Court, particularly the Sparkling White. It was superior to any ‘Champagne’ I have tasted or any other sparkling wines. ” – Mr & Mrs Hill
The wines at Broadfield Court are the finest to be produced in Herefordshire, if not the UK. No Herefordshire vineyard is as mature as the one at Broadfield Court, which operates under the name of Bodenham English Wines.
In 1971 an experimental 50 vines were planted by the founder, Keith James, with an additional 500 Reichensteiner vines the following year, continuing until the expansion programme was completed and covered 17 acres of Broadfield’s finest south-facing slopes.
The vines which have proved to flourish best include Huxelrebe, Seyve Villard and Madeleine Angevine as well as the original Reichensteiner. In 2007, Broadfield added their first red grape – Pinot Noir – which resides in the centre of the main vineyard.
After the grapes are processed, the pure juice is siphoned into Broadfield’s own vats where it is fermented and bottled the following year.
Maturing well in the bottle, the wines settle down after the first few months and continue to develop over a number of years, to be ranked today with the best traditions of elegant English wines.
